Mandela Day: The Young Madibarists’ Movement Celebrate at WARC

A group of young west africans committed to Nelson Mandela’s thought and achievements have been celebrating Mandela Day for many years now and have always benefitted from the support of the West African Research Center in terms of logistics and human resources.

On July 18th they held a panel at the West African Research Center (WARC) with the following:

  • Mamoudou Ibra Kane, Journalist and Director of the radio and TV station I-TV and I-Radio (author of the short essay Le Senegal et Mandela : le grand secret)
  • The Ambassador of South Africa in Senegal
  • The Ambassador of Zimbabwe in Senegal
  • The Ambassador of Cuba in Senegal
  • A representative of the UN system
  • Professor Ousmane Séne, WARC Director

Mamoudou Ibra Kane was first to take the floor discussing some seminal passages culled from his publication. This was followed by insightful contributions from the diplomats listed above and from Professor Ousmane Sene who, for many years, taught south african literature (Nadine Gordimer, Alex LaGuma etc…..) in the Department of English of University Cheikh Anta Diop.

There ensued lively discussions and exchanges with the young participants numbering 30 people.
