The workshop which took place on March 22 nd -27 th was the second in a row to be
organized by the West African Research Center (WARC) as part of the Fulbright
Support Services project in West Africa (and other parts of the continent)
On the occasion 33 English Teaching Assistants funded by the State Department
Fulbright program rallied in Dakar from the following African countries: Senegal
Rwanda, Madagascar, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, Zambia, Kenya, Mauritius,
Botswana and Uganda. The sessions were also attended by older fulbrighters called
mentors who shared their experiences with their younger colleagues.
The opening ceremony was preceded by a number of activities in Dakar on March
23 rd and 24 th and officially took place on Monday March 25 th . It was presided over by
Mrs Mary Kirk, Director of Academic Programs, Ruth Anne Stevens-Klitz, Public
Affairs, US Embassy, Dakar, Ousmane Sene, WARC Director with Africa Fulbright
Program Branch Chief Valerie Gilpin (Educational and Cultural Affairs, US State
Departement) and other officials attending.
The workshop wrapped up Wednesday March 27 th with all participants departing from Dakar.
