HIGHLIGHT
An African Cinema for Africa
Sembene Across Africa, Fourth Edition, October 19-25, 2020

Galle Ceddo Projects led by Jason Silverman and Professor Samba Gadjigo in the United States, this year again, teamed up with the West African Research Center (WARC) for the fourth edition of the Sembene Across Africa (SAA) project to celebrate the father of african cinema, Ousmane Sembene.

This year, two films, Mandabi and Xala and the documentary Sembene! will be shown from October 19th to October 25th in Senegal as well as in other west african and african countries. The West African Research Center (WARC) made arrangements for partner institutions in Senegal and West Africa to plan and implement all the sessions in their various agendas.

Along with the screenings, several virtual panel discussions will also be held including a conversation between novelist Boubacar Boris Diop and Marie Angelique Savané (a senegalese woman activist) on Sembene and the riots of 1968 as experienced in Senegal. The discussion will held and filmed at WARC on Thursday, October 22nd.
The Director of WARC moderated the virtual panel discussion held on Tuesday, October 20th following the screening of Professor Gadjigo’s documentary Sembene! and attended by over 100 virtual participants.
WARC will also host another screening (Xala) on Thursday, October 22nd.
