Démocratie sénégalaise: la roche tarpéienne toujours près de l’urne ( L’Harmattan-Sénégal; 2024)
Borrowing from a phrase characterizing the rise and fall of political leaders in ancient Rome, Alpha wrote his essay on Senegalese democracy reminding us that the Capitol may be full of glory and power but failed political players can be called back to grim reality one day and dismally fall down and suffer the sorry plight inflicted on the Tarpeian rock. Indeed, « it’s not far from the Capitol to the Tarpeian Rock ».
The various speakers invited to discuss the book came from various fields but were all in a position to add to the discussion as members of the civil society, writers and critics or academics.
They all revisited the democratic process in Senegal, its strengths and shortcomings and offered possible solutions to further entrench democratic political changes in the country and other west african nations.
The audience totaling 37 people contributed to the liveliness of the event with questions and answers.
