On Tuesday and Wednesday October 8th, 9th, 2024, four presentations were offered on the US electoral process by Professor Amy Greene specializing in political science at University Paris Montaigne in France. Professor Greene is the author of two major publications (among others): America after Obama and The United States in the World (a collective work).

The initiative was co-organized by the US Embassy in Dakar and the West African Research Center (WARC).

On Tuesday; October 8th, the presentation was attended by university professors (chiefly from University Cheikh Anta Diop) in the morning and, in the afternoon, by members of civil society organizations promoting political participation. 

Wednesday’s presentations were made for election administration officials and political party representatives in the morning while the afternoon hosted journalists.

During those various sessions chaired by Professor Ousmane Séne, WARC Director, Professor Greene very expertly explained the US election process focusing on the presidential election with the role of grand electors, their distribution in the 50 states, the winner takes all option and several other aspects and issues characterizing US democracy and inherited from the US political history. Questions relating to the current 2024 presidential election campaign were also addressed.

The various audiences totaling 34 people were very eager to learn about the process, civic engagement in US elections and many other issues pertaining to political life in the US.
