HIGHLIGHT: WARC distinguished at the launch of painter Kalidou Kassé’s new International Center of Contemporary Arts and Cultures (CIAC)
On Tuesday, December 26th, 2021 in the afternoon, the West African Research Center (WARC) was recognized and distinguished as one of the guests of honor for the launching ceremony of the new art center of a senegalese painter and artist with worldwide recognition, the talented creator Kalidou Kassé also called « the paintbrush of the Sahel ».
Years before, Kalidou Kassé had launched his school of painting and design « Taggatt » (wolof for training) and now he is embarked on an international project with the aim to give a fully-fledged training and education to young and budding artists who, at the end of their schooling, will be awarded nationally and internationally recognized certificates and degrees. Students would come to Dakar from all over the world and receive classes from local and international instructors in various artistic fields: painting, sculpture, music, dance etc….
The ultimate objective, according to Kalidou, is to turn the school into a regular university with an international faculty and local and international students.
The event was attended by several senior officials with three guests of honor: the senegalese ministry of culture and communication with the minister Abdoulaye Diop attending, the mayor of Dakar represented by a high-level official from her office and the West African Research Center (WARC) represented by its Director who, on the occasion, took the floor and praised the initiative while emphasizing the friendly and professional ties linking the Center to the famous « paintbrush of the Sahel
